- There is another explanation for the fact: if the data already is
- compressed, V.42bis cannot compress it any further. The protocol
- is intelligent enough to realize that the data is compressed, and
- not to try it any longer, but there still is an overhead: the
- internal V.42bis data structures are still updated, and the
- current escape character is quoted in the data stream.
